Ocean Leaders Announce National Actions to Stop Offshore Drilling

Press Conference 2PM Thursday May 11

Simon Bolivar Park across from Dept. of Interior

Join us on May 11 at 2pm in DC to hear leaders from leading marine conservation groups, elected officials, the fishing community and others announce the next wave of citizen action to Stop the Drill and Protect Our Coasts.

President Trump’s Executive Order and announced intent to expand offshore oil drilling in U.S. waters including areas in the Atlantic and Arctic Ocean made off-limits by President Obama, represents a grave environmental and economic threat to our public seas and coastal blue economies.

Seven years after the BP disaster in the Gulf of Mexico and following the three hottest years in recorded history, the administration’s combining of climate change denial and heedless pursuit of fossil fuels at the expense of clean job-generating renewable energy is bad policy.  But combining that with proposed elimination of safety regulations for offshore oil including the mechanics of blowout preventers, drilling bores, cement standards and workplace safety protocols that have all failed in the past is a guarantee of not just more drilling but more spilling.

And that is unacceptable to the American people.
