Shopper's Revolt in Redhill

Last Sunday afternoon 20th February we had Sainsbury's customers queuing at our very own checkout outside the store to hand over unnecessary plastic wrappings from their fruit and veg. Great teamwork from everyone, with Trudy asking shoppers both going in and out if they'd like to join in, Kate D helping shoppers identify unnecessary plastic in their bags, and Kate G,Rachel and self helping out with explanations,sign-ups and message writing. It was cold, and after 90 minutes or so when the sun disappeared behind the rooftops, there was no argument that we'd earned warm drinks and comfort food in the West Central cafe across the way. We were taken aback by the keeness of customers to embrace the campaign, and untroubled by the Sainsbury's security man who probably thought we hadn't spotted him filming us with his chest mounted camera. We look forward to the next moves....
