Guys, we need to fight big business on Saturday. Please come if you can and be in a photo to win a law suit.....
The Problem: Greenpeace ran a series of investigations exposing unsustainable practices by the Resolute Forestry Company of Canada who are a paper and pulp giant. So did Resolute clean up their act? No, instead they plan to shoot the messenger by suing Greenpeace Canada for $7,000,000 and Greenpeace US and International together for $300,000,000. Ouch!
This 'World without Greenpeace...' article has detail and wider implications...
The Grand Plan: Around the world, groups of Greenpeace staff, volunteers, and supporters will gather at
beautiful trees to take stunning photos of defiance and determination.
In the short term these will form a twitter storm, but in the longer term the very best will be selected and printed up to make a few copies of a very special book. These books will be taken to some of the world's biggest publishers, think Penguin, Random House and Harper Collins, because they buy their paper from Resolute and are the ones who can influence them to becoming a responsible company.
The Oxford Plan: We decided at the last meeting to do our photos at Christchurch meadow as it's so central. We'll meet at the huge iron gates (Blue, I think?! In the above picture anyway.) opposite Cafe Loco at 13:00 and we can stroll around and choose trees and angles. Any keen photographers please bring camera and skills and let me know so I can leave the happy-snappy at home. A good Oxford view might get us in the glossy book!
Hope you can come,
