Next weekend on Saturday 8th September there are a host of Rise For Climate events being arranged as part of a day of action ahead of the Global Action Climate Summit in California.. The Summit has invited every mayor, governor, and local leader in the world to make a bold climate commitment to help the world reach the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement. We know that those commitments need to achieve: a fast, fair and just transition to 100% renewable energy and an immediate end to new fossil fuel projects.
This Summer we have seen a variety of lethal extreme weather events that have included wildfires in California, record floods in Kerala India, heatwaves in Japan and Korea, droughts and heatwaves in Europe that have destroyed crops. In the UK high temperatures led to tinderbox conditions and fires on Saddleworth Moor, Nr Manchester. As a result thousands of people have died and hundreds of thousands have been displaced Yet, where is the global cooperation and Government ambition to tackle what is clearly becoming a climate emergency
