Hi all,

As part of the ongoing piplines campaign there will be a couple of days of action this month in the lovely sunny shire. The first of which being Saturday the 14th of July. To give a little bit of info..

The Pipelines campaign is centred against Barclays involvement and funding with projects to extract some of the dirtiest oil in the world from the Canadian tar sands in Alberta, and shipping it via the Trans Mountain Pipeline to Vancouver.

The Trans Mountain pipeline expansion will have a massive impact on climate change, affect the water and livelihoods of indigenous peoples in the region as well as a rare community of orca found off the waters of Vancouver. The two other pipelines included in this campaign are Keystone XL and the Line 3 Expansion pipeline, both cross the boarder into the US.

Barclays are the only UK bank still choosing to fund tar sands pipelines and is funding all three pipelines for this project. They are also a lender to Energy Transfer Partners (who built the Dakota Access pipeline).

We want to send Barclays a clear message that funding these tar sands pipelines is unacceptable. We're calling on them to withdraw from any existing project loans to tar sands pipelines and to confirm that it will not provide any further financial support for dirty tar sands pipelines and Energy Transfer Partners.

That's where you come in!

From the 30th of June to the 31st of July there will be activities happening all over the country and we need to show them Leicester is no different. This centers around;

Public engagement stalls
Stickering and subvertising
Local media
Hand-in at local Barclays branches.

What I'm after are people to help campaign and gather signatures on the 14th of July and the 28th of July in Leicesters centre. If one day doesn't suit it would be great if you could do the other (or vice versa!).

I've been provided with some cool props (like a large fake cash machine that members of the public can post cards with messages on into) and other things to help engage with the public.

Please let me know if you can come out on either of those dates.

I hope you can make it! Once I have an idea of numbers I'll sort out a full briefing and send you some more information. There's plenty of reading online about the project too!

Any questions let me know. :)

Thanks,

Scott.
