The Antarctic Ocean Commission is meeting in October to decide whether to create the largest protected area on Earth: an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary.  This sanctuary would create a safe haven for penguins, whales, seals and other wildlife, marking these waters off-limits to the industrlal fishing vessels sucking up the tiny krill on which Antarctic life relies.

Healthy oceans can also help us to tackle the worst effects of climate change by soaking up carbon dioxide so the benefits of ocean sanctuaries are truly global.

On Saturday 20th of January, the Glasgow group will be taking part in a Global Day of Action coinciding with Penguin Awareness day to raise awareness and kickstart a global movement of people pushing for an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary.

We are meeting at 12.00 in CitizenM in Renfrew Street to get ready for a penguin spectacle - Scottish style!

Please come along, dressed in black and white. Penguin masks will be provided.  All welcome!
