We acknowledge that this event is taking place on the unceded and unsurrendered traditional territory of the Algonquin peoples.
On March 27, over 50 Ottawa-Center constituents rallied outside MP Catherine McKenna's office to ask her to meet with Coast Salish community leaders at the Watch House. Over 20 occupied her office all afternoon waiting to hear an answer.
We ended up FaceTiming MP McKenna, who said she'd look at her schedule to meet with the Coast Salish peoples out West. We put a call to action to our supporters asking them to tweet at her and call her ministerial office asking for a meeting to be scheduled. At the end of the day, we left on the understanding that if by March 29 there wasn't a publicly announced scheduled meeting, we'd be back.
And here we are.
Please join us once more as we gather in opposition to Kinder Morgan's project and in solidarity with those on the front lines of the battle out West.
The event will include a ‘teach-in’ where we’ll hear from leaders in the fight against Kinder Morgan (Including Indigenous Climate Action's Eriel Deranger and Keith Stewart from Green Peace), there will be lots of new art to help draw attention to our action, and we’re asking people to bring a pot or pan and a wooden spoon from home so we can make lots of noise!
