Press Release: #Durban #AfricansRising #25May2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

#Durban #AfricansRising #25May2017 working together to build the #AfricaWeWant

On 25 May 2017, Durbanities will join the Africans Rising Movement and mobilise our community around the shared vision of building a Future we want - a right to a clean & healthy environment, peace, social inclusion and shared prosperity.

Africans Rising is a people's’ movement committed to a decentralised, citizen-owned future that will build support and solidarity for local struggles, local leadership and immerse activists in the work of building social movements below and beyond borders.

African unity reflected by greater social, political and economic integration is critical for Africa and its peoples - and a united society should be the vanguard of such a movement for justice, peace and dignity. The Validation Conference held in Arusha, Tanzania at the end of August 2016 built

on the key consensus and included: Unanimous agreement to use African Liberation Day (African Day) on 25 May each year as the apex organising moment and, to launch the movement on #25May2017 with a series of events and actions all across the African continent- rallying together as one Africa, to build peace, seek justice and manifest our dignity.

The movement is a growing and self-selecting collective of social movements, NGOs, communities, and popular social justice movements, intellectuals, artists, sports, people, cultural activists and others across the continent and Diaspora.

The #Durban #AfricansRising #25May2017 event is support by the Greenpeace Durban volunteers and the Mariannhill community youth based organisation, Green Thumb Society.   Greenpeace Durban coordinator, Delwyn Pillay - "We are working together to build the #AfricaWeWant Together!
